A New Day At . . .

Can Too Center
                     What is the Real Solution?
First, our society needs to recognize the
problems that inhibit a victim from breaking the
cycle of abuse inflicted on and controlling
them and their children.

There are currently emergency shelters
for the victims of domestic violent crimes through
out America.  Most shelters only allow a victim
to stay a maximum of thirty days. One month is
not sufficient time for the victim to gain skills,
become established and ready to support themselves.  It is our opinion this is the primary reason victims leave their abuser and return an average of seven times before escaping permanently.  This also explains the primary reason for the statistic that tells us that one-half of the women who are homeless are women who have opted to live on the streets rather than return to their abuser for more beatings.

There is a real need to start these victims and their children with a program helping
them adjust and gain a level of confidence in themselves, thus combating the many years
of brainwashing reinforcing their perceived unworthiness of any self esteem.  These
victims need a secure environment to begin their initial healing.  In the Can Too Center's                                                             safe campus these victims can realize the hopes that are
necessary for them to develop the needed commitment                                                                       to the training that is offered to them by the Can Too Center                                                                program.  This second phase by Can Too Center is to
teach them the skills of good parenting, stewardship of                                                                       their own finances and educate them with skills and training
that will enable them to be productive, valuable employees of tomorrow.
Helping victims should exceed just giving them a place to hide for a few weeks.
These victims are still panicked by the thought of returning, and are ssuming there are no
options for permanent escape.  REAL HELP is teaching them the skills and training so
that they can become independent and confident people.  By the victim's gaining these
new skills and independence their children are able to start a new path themselves to become self-sufficient and loved as they become loving adults thus breaking the cycle.
